Our Ph.D. Students

Bünyamin Esen has a degree of BSc in Economics from Faculty of Economics of Istanbul University, Istanbul, Turkey. As a Jean Monnet Scholarship holder for 2012, he has finished his MSc in Social Policy (European and Comparative Social Policy) degree at Department of Social Policy of London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), London, UK, with his dissertation titled “Managing the Welfare Reform in the case of Turkey: Europeanisation without the EU Anchor – A comparative analysis of Social Security Reform of Turkey from 2006-2012”. He has been working as a Social Security Inspector for the Social Security Institution of Republic of Turkey since 2009. His special expertise area is Turkish social security law, labour law, and occupational health and safety law. He has more than 400 published articles and opinions on social security, labour law and occupational health and safety law. He regularly writes essays and articles on social security, social policy, labour law, social security policies etc. areas to some academic and peer-reviewed journals and reference sources in Turkey, i.e., Mali Çözüm, Legal İş ve Sosyal Güvenlik Hukuku, Terazi Hukuk, Güncel Mevzuat, Yaklaşım, Müşavir, Lebib Yalkın Mevzuat, Eczacı. He regularly writes a column at www.internethaber.com and at Turkish daily Daily Sabah on welfare policies of Turkey.
Main Research Interests: Turkey’s welfare policies in the recent decade, Ak-Party’s social policies, social policy in emerging countries, comparative social policy, welfare-mix, occupational health and safety, employment accidents, occupational illnesses, labour market policies, informal employment, flexibility policies’ effects on social policy, social security systems, sustainability of welfare funds, welfare reform, social security reform, ageing and its impacts on welfare provision, family patterns, elderly and child care, healthcare reform

Koray Kaplıca is a Ph.D. student in Political Science and International Relations Department at Boğaziçi University, since September 2015. Previously, he had a B.A. degree in Political Science at Bilkent University and M.A. degree in International Relations at Koç University. As TUBITAK Graduate scholarship holder, he finished master thesis titled “Explaining Advocacy Agenda: Human Rights NGOs in Turkey” in 2012, which he studied advocacy agenda structure of three human rights NGOs in Turkey. His research interests lie primarily in Comparative Politics and International Relations, specifically social movements, public policy, international political economy, and international regimes. Currently, he is working as a teaching assistant in Marmara University, and project coordinator and editor in Doğruluk Payı, which is an initiative that aims to contribute developing accountability in Turkish politics by fact-checking public statements of political actors and sharing them via internet channels.

Beyza Sarıkoç Yıldırım is a Ph.D student in the Department Political Science and International Relations at Bogazici University. She had a B.A. degree from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Middle East Technical University. She received her M.A. degree in Local Governments and Urban Politics at Marmara University with her thesis titled “Urban Climate Justice in the Local Climate Change Policies: The Cases of Bursa, Izmir, Nilufer and Karsiyaka”. Her research interests fall under Comparative Politics and International Relations, specifically environmental politics, climate change, local politics, social justice and climate justice. Currently, she is working as a research assistant in the Department of Local Governments at Marmara University.
