Political Science and International Relations | Summer Research Program 2019
Summer Research Program aims to develop research skills of students from the Political Science and International Relations department. The program aims to develop technical skills of students by working in research projects of faculty members. There will be different project options and the students will be able to develop their research skills by taking active part in these research projects. Faculty members can develop new projects for the Summer Research Program or recruit students for their ongoing research projects.
Enrollment in the Summer Research Program is free. Researchers will not be provided free accommodation or food for the duration of the program. Students are also responsible for their own health insurance. The program is not part of the regular summer school of Bogazici University and there will be no grade or credit gained by participating in this program. The dates indicated below may be flexible and you may arrange both the location of work and timing with the Project coordinator.

Project 1
Project title: Authoritarian Reactions to Foreign Relief
Faculty member: Bann Seng Tan
Requirements: minimum 3.0 GPA
Job description: Ability to carry out web based research and newspaper
archival search. You will use a search engine (http://academic.lexisnexis.eu/ ) and do data entry using a basic text editor (Notepad). Please be prepared to commit for the duration of project. You should not apply if you are traveling outside the country
during this period. You may apply if you are also taking summer class at the same time. Students who are already working with me on this project during the regular semester do not need to apply for this
summer project.

Project Title: Tracking media coverage of election results in Turkey: 2018 to 2019
Faculty member: Selcan Kaynak
Requirements: Pols majors, 3rd year and above will be accepted.
Although physical presence through the duration of the project is not necessary, a commitment to completing the assigned tasks until the finish date is expected.

Requirements: Knowledge of the relevant language will be an advantage.

Requirements: Pols majors, 3rd year and above, 3.0 GPA

Application Procedure
Applicants should submit an unofficial transcript, CV and a short motivation letter before May 31 (5pm) to the department Office in IB (IB 5th floor). On top of your letter please indicate the Project number, title and name of the instructor who is carrying it out.
Selected students will be contacted for an interview with the project coordinator.
