Prof. Alev Çınar won 2017 Üstün Ergüder Award
An annual award will be given to the academics, who effectively contribute to social sciences through their research and written works, in honor of Prof. Üstün Ergüder who was one of the founders of our department and a former president of Boğaziçi University. This year, we are glad to announce that Prof. Alev Çınar of Bilkent University’s department of Political Science and Public Administration was awarded during our 2017 Graduation Ceremony.
Prof. Alev Çınar who is also the chair of her department received her M.A. degree in Sociology from Boğaziçi University and Ph.D. degree in Political Science from University of Pennsylvania. After completing doctoral studies, she continued post-doctoral studies in the US before turning back to Turkey. Throughout her academic life, Prof. Alev Çınar has produced significant works such as Modernity, Islam and Secularism in Turkey: Bodies Places and Time and became a member of the School of Social Sciences at the Institute for Advanced Study in 2012, as the first and only social scientist who is a member of this organization from Turkey.
